The ‘Creative Arts’ at St Kentigern’s
Here at St Kentigern’s, high value is placed on providing enriching cultural experiences for the pupils in our care as a means to nurture talent, boost self-esteem, express emotions and enhance learning skills across the curriculum. As a school committed to ‘The Arts’ we are currently on our ArtsMark journey where we are aiming to achieve a Gold Award in recognition of this.
We strongly believe that the arts act as a vehicle for our pupils to communicate with others, express themselves vocally and emotionally, and make connections between their own experiences and understanding of their environment and wider world.
Meaningful links are made across subjects where artists have visited school to expand knowledge and understanding of scientific objectives, dance workshops used to explore the work of a Manchester artist and theatre trips to engage learners in a range of literary texts.
A range of after-school enrichment clubs occur regularly across both Key Stages at St Kentigern’s; Choir, Drama, Ukulele, Recorder and Art Clubs. The outcomes of the visual art experiences provided are celebrated on colourful and vibrant displays. Large scale artwork created by the children is proudly displayed in our school hall for all to enjoy and respond to. Artwork is also displayed throughout classrooms and corridors to celebrate and inspire.
We love embracing all that Manchester’s diverse culture has to offer! Teachers strive to plan exciting opportunities for their learners to engage with the arts through their half-termly topics. We have established good partnerships with local cultural organisations such as Z-Arts, The Whitworth Art Gallery and One Education’s Music Provision.
