The children have come back to nursery well rested and ready to learn! They've had a great week using their imaginations to construct models from different objects in different ways. Sticklebricks to make a table and chairs, sand and shells to make a birthday cake and counted 10 'candles' then blew them out, duplo to make a monster and a dog, playdough and matchsticks to make hedgehogs, 2d shapes to make rockets and letters to make an alphabet! See if you can tell which is which?
Well done everybody - a fabulous first week back! Keep up the good work.
The children have a had fabulous, productive and busy half term.
Our story this week has been Pumpkin Soup and the children have explored everything to do with pumpkins... smelling, touching , drawing, painting, making , mixing and tasting their own pumpkin soup! They ate this with bread at really enjoyed it.
Happy half term Nursery - you've earned it!!
A fantastic busy week in Nursery, we have been going hedgehog crazy reading the fabulous book Hedgehugs by Lucy Tapper and Steve Wilson. We drew hedgehogs, learned facts about them and we also counted spines (pinecones) on our own giant hedgehog Humperdink. The children also loved practising number recognition by choosing a number and counting spines to peg onto their own hedgehog pictures!
In RE this week the children have been learning about the faith of Judaism and in particular the special celebration of Hanukkah. They have discussed special days that they have celebrated with their families and drawn pictures of themselves with their families. They have learned about the 8 day celebration and the menorah with 8 candles that they have enjoyed colouring in.
The children have been extremely busy this week "writing". They have been developing their pencil grips and tracing lines , circles and practising tracing their names. They have been putting these new skills to good use drawing pictures of themselves and families for our RE display and drawing pigs for our story Farmer Duck! Well done Nursery.
The children are continuing to settle in nursery getting used to their new routines. They are making lots of new friends and enjoying everything that the nursery and outdoors has to offer.
As the children enjoy playing outside so much and can play out in ALL weathers could you ensure please that your child has a WATERPROOF coat - (ponchos are great for rainy weather and can be bought very cheaply on-line) and WELLIES that can be kept in school at all times. Also we ask that your child has a spare set of clothes in school -(labelled with their name in) in case of toilet accidents.
The children are settling into Nursery very well and are enjoying all the learning areas that it has to offer. They are especially enjoying the special prayer time at the end of the day in our Dream Zone, where they are learning how to make prayer hands and to make the sign of the cross by saying,
From my head to my heart,
from my shoulder to my shoulder,
I belong to God.
The Nursery team would like to say a huge welcome to our children, whether moving from our litttle Acorns or those who are new to the school! The children have all had a very busy, hectic and for some a very emotional week settling in! They have been getting acquainted with our classroom, new rules and new routines and making new friends.
We all hope that the children have a fantastic time in Nursery and enjoy their learning experiences.
'We are nearly at the end of the school year and many of our children entered our setting unable to sing number songs or recognise any numbers. With help from you the parents and a quiet determination from the staff team, we have been overwhelmed by the progress that your children have made. We are recognising and manipulating numbers to 20 and using this in our play with our friends. Together we have built firm foundations for these children and given them the best start possible. Thank you so much for your help and support this year. Anything we have asked for you have given generously and anything we have asked you to do has been met with a 'yes'. You make our job an easier one and are giving your children every opportunity to be the best that they can be.
We have been patiently waiting for our onions and potatoes to grow and this week we decided to harvest some of our crops. We have dug up the most delicious potatoes and perfect onions.
The Nursery children then spent the morning making potato salad. It was amazing and a real lesson on learning where our food comes from.
