The children are really enjoying their dinosaur topic. This week the children applied their phonic knowledge to describe and label some of their dinosaur drawings. We also learnt some new facts about a Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor, Diplodocus, and a Stegosaurus as well as looking at what a palaeontologist does!
Our new vocabulary this week included: extinct, herbivore, carnivore, predator, hunter, fossil, and palaeontologist.
This week the children were excited to find some mysterious eggs in our classroom. We looked at different types of animals that hatch from eggs and discussed what might hatch from our mystery eggs. The children made some wonderful posters to warn visitors not to touch!
We also enjoyed reading the story 'How to Grow a Dinosaur' about an imaginative boy named Albie. We later planted some seeds to grow our own curly dinosaur heads. To help develop our writing skills we wrote some simple instructions on how to plant a 'dinosaur' seed just like Albie.
