The children in Reception this week have proved to be incredibly creative in designing and decorating their own stegasaurus. Using a paper plate for the body and coloured triangular card for the plates "that change to red when they are angry," they made a 3d dinosaur that could stand up on legs!
Not content with just using the craft supplies, one imaginative child made a diplodocus using various 2d plastic shapes on the floor!
The children have had a busy week exploring all areas of learning centered around the topic of Dinosaurs. From choosing to read books in the reading area to role playing in the dinosaur gift shop learning to count money and buying dinosaurs. Also the children have been young palaentologists learning about fossils and bones on an excavation site and discovering a "stegoceratops" on a dig in the craft area - a mix of a stegosaurus and triceratops! It hasn't all been "play" though the children have been learning about herbivores and carnivores and then writing captions and labelling their dinosaurs.
Well done, little explorers!
To welcome the children back to reception in 2018 we have a new topic - Dinosaurs! The classroom is all set up to ready for them to explore this fabulous topic to inspire, tantilise and scare the children! We have a Dinosaur Gift Shop where the children can buy fossils that have been discovered in the prehistoric sand. They will be reading several fiction and non-fiction books, drawing and labelling their own dinosaurs and writing sentences to describe them. This week we have been reading "How to grow a dinosaur!" and growing hair on their own dinosaur whilst predicting what could hatch from the eggs that have appeared in the classroom - a topic of discussion - can't wait to find out....!
