On Friday 17th June, St.Kentigern's hosted our own Euro 2016 fundraiser day.
Each class throughout our school chose a country competing in the Euro 2016 France tournament and represented that country in various competitions throughout the day.
Children were asked to donate £1 to charity to participate and in turn, were allowed to come to school in none uniform but in the colours of their chosen country.
The response and support from the children and parents was outstanding!
The first competition of the day was the Euro 2016 quiz. Each class researched and learned all about their country and answered various questions to test their knowledge of their chosen country, to earn points for their team. To hear young children sing the national anthem of a foreign country and know the language, landmarks, exports and currencies of their chosen countries was absolutely fantastic.
The second stage of the competition was the presentation of each class in the theme and colours of their
country. The lengths the children and parents must have gone to were superb and for that I must thank all the parents, as it made the day really special.
Third stage of the competition was the Euro 2016 football tournament. Each class (country) selected a team of players to compete against the other classes (countries) in a round robin tournament, with the rest of their class cheering them on!
The standard of play and the sportsmanship shown by all of the children was impeccable and made me proud to be part of this school.
The points from each competition will be added up and the overall winning countries announced in Monday's assembly.
I would like to thank Conner Brownlow, Mr. Miller and Mr. Barnes for all of their help, without which this fantastic day would not have been possible.
