The first activity we took part in was a walk led by a Roman soldier
to the amphitheatre in town. The children had to march in
formation;shoulder to shoulder and maintain the pace. They carried a
Roman shield in their left hand.
Once we had reached the amphitheatre we were taught how the Romans
defended themselves by using the tortoise formation. We worked as a
class to reproduce it and learnt how effective it was against arrows.
