We have had some great fun this week in Year 5 learning all about how to write a newspaper report. Not only have children become experts at identifying what makes a report successful but have also made some of their headlines. The children showed a great flair for funny, eye-catching headlines that could really sell papers!
We have officially opened our classroom Times Table club this week in 5AV. Every morning each child has been working on their multiplication and division knowledge starting with the 2 times table. From Monday to Friday all children shaved an enormous amount of time off their 2 minute target and made huge progress. We continue next week with our 5 times table until we are all experts!
Clocks have been turned back 2000 years this week in Year 5 as we have started our Roman topic. Not only have the children created their own timelines for the Roman Empire, the children have also begun to write their own letters home as Roman soldiers. Aside from all the Roman fun this week, my personal highlight was singing 'Livin' on a prayer' as part of our music lesson. We have some real rock stars in our class!
After a long, hot summer it was lovely to welcome my new year 5 class back to St Kentigern's this week. As a new teacher to St Kentigern's it was a particularly special day for me. With massive smiles on their faces and great energy, my class have approached all the new challenges that come with being in year 5 amazingly well. From starting our class novel, The Thieves of Ostia, to striking poses as part of our 'marvellous me' art project, we have had a lot of fun this week. We are all looking forward to continuing our learning together for the rest of the year.
