St Kentigern's

R.C Primary School

School is committed to a high quality provision of Music which sees a specialist music teacher leading singing sessions throughout school.  All the children fully participate in these lively singing experiences.
St Kentigern’s pride themselves on excellent musical performances, which in the past has featured Year 6 performing ‘Bugsy Malone’ and ‘The Wizard of Oz’.  Key Stage Two perform ‘Resurrection Rock’ at Easter, and Key Stage One perform a Palm Sunday assembly with singing and role play.  The children thoroughly loved the rehearsal process leading to live performances.  Excellent reviews were made by the audience and such events are always a sell out!
We have an excellent choir who enjoy selecting songs to perform to a range of audiences.  They have performed at The Hidden Gem Church in Manchester at The Manchester Evening News Arena with thousands of other school choir members as part of ‘The Young Voices’ choir.  We have recently performed virtually with our network of other musical schools.
Cross-curricular links are made to music whereby learners consolidate their learning by singing topic based songs which feature in some excellent class assemblies.  We sing songs daily in our collective worship assemblies and believe it is an act of prayer bringing us closer to God.

Past events have seen Year 6 working with The Royal Northern College of Music to perform in an opera: ‘Rats’!  This was a once in a life-time experience where the children worked with musicians and composers to write lyrics for music and perform with other schools.  It also involved making creative masks for them to perform in.

Musical events are planned by pupils such as a sponsored Karaoke raising money for CAFOD.  Parents were invited to sing with their children and compete for the coveted ‘Karaoke King’ and ‘Karaoke Queen’ award!  Such events highlighted some hidden talents…of children and parents alike!  Our annual ‘St Kent’s Go Talent’ show always showcases excellent singing, as well as dance acts!  Previous winners are tough acts to follow!

Our music appreciation sessions feature music genres from different cultures, artists of BAME, history and musical styles!
