Thursday 15th October 2020 - Black History Month
In October we are celebrating Black History Month. This week our celebrations have included reading "I Love My Hair", where we have explored and celebrated all hair. We then looked at the photographic artist Tawny Chatmon who inspired the children in creating fabulous, abstract "hair collages" over their own photographs. We are continuing to learn about ourselves and our emotions, and this week we listened to Bob Marley's Three Little Birds. Some children independently made the super link that they are from Jamaica, like Bob Marley - what great understanding of the world! The children have been enjoying listening to different types of music - there have been lots of requests to listen to Chuck Berry again this week!
We are becoming more independent in phonics and it is great to see children applying their new sounds when sounding out and blending. In maths, we have been exploring more and fewer with different resources. This week's homework links to this exploration of more and fewer, encourage your child to use this language and to reason (explain) their thinking! We have loved seeing your home learning photographs on SeeSaw and we look forward to seeing more next week!
Thursday 8th October 2020 - Super Sorting Mathematicians!
This week we have been exploring similarities and differences. We have been talking a lot about our likes, dislikes, feelings and emotions. In maths, we have been sorting lots of different objects into groups of our own choice and reasoning why. We have been sorting animals, Autumn objects, shapes, buttons and socks!
In phonics we have learnt the sounds: g, o , c, k. We have been learning to read cvc words with the sounds that we have learnt so far, for example c - a - t...cat! d - o - g...dog!
We have seen leaves starting to fall and we have been exploring that in our creative areas.
For Black History Month, this week, we have listened to Chuck Berry! The children loved expressing their emotions through movement and dancing.
We have also been colouring our own Rosary Beads and talking about how we use Rosary Beads to pray to Mary.
We are impressed every week with the children's learner attitudes!
Thursday 1st October 2020 - Super Duper You!
We have had another fabulous and busy week in reception! We have been learning all about our 5 senses and the children have been going on senses walks around the school grounds. We have been painting autumn trees, writing our names and making Numicon prints in the craft area. In phonics we have learnt i, m, n, d and in numeracy we have been exploring making 5 in lots of different ways.
We started celebrating Black History Month and we enjoyed a special lunch today in the hall.
October is also a special month as it is the month of the Holy Rosary. The children will be learning to say the 'Hail Mary' in prayer time.
We are super proud of the children and their enthusiastic approach to learning!
Miss Ingram and Mrs Lilley
We are settling in beautifully in Reception. We have been learning all about our emotions as part of our Super-duper-you topic and we have also started our self portraits in the creative area. We were very impressed with the way the children managed getting changed for P.E. on Wednesday! Very independent indeed.
This week we had the bikes and the children have been exploring moving in a variety of ways outside.
We have been practising writing our names and using the correct letter formation. Keep up the good work and remember to practise your high frequency words at home. Exciting news - the children have taken home a new reading book to read with an adult over the weekend.
Notes to remember:
- Homework - in by Wednesday to be marked :)
- Reading bags and records to be in every day.
- P.E. kits for Wednesday
- Please bring a small plastic bottle into school as next week we will be making emotions bottles!
Have a lovely weekend!

World Book Day
It was World Book Day on Thursday and yet again you went above and beyond to support our children. There outfits looked fantastic and we had the most wonderful day. All of the staff dressed up and got into the spirit of the day. We really do have the best adults and children in this school.
